Bridgeton, Scotland. The Caldwell Family - David and Mary Ann Vaughan -lived in a small town close
to Glasgow Scotland - Barony Parish, Bridgeton, Lanark, Scotland - now part of that city. They were
weavers and had a cottage industry - a loom in their home that family members would use to create goods for market.
Lanark, Canada. When their family was young, there was a movement to settle Canada. A group, referred
to as the "Lanark Society Settlers" was formed. This organization assisted groups, or smaller societies, to emigrate to Canada.
The Caldwells were part of the Bridgeton Transalantic Society. They made their way to Lanark, Ontario, Canada in 1820.
Monroe, Michigan. During the 1840's, David and Mary Ann joined the Mormon Church and started their migration
to Nauvoo, Illinois. Davids health failed, and the family settled in Monroe, Michigan. After a few years, David passed away
in 1849.
English Fort, Utah. Pursuing their goal of being with fellow Mormons, many family members migrated to
Utah. Mary Ann and several of her children were settled in a small community called English Fort. They were in this
location for about three years.
Clover & St. John, Utah. Due to water problems, they were reassigned to a rural area in Tooele
County - now known as Rush Valley. They first settled in Clover. At this place, there were safety issues and the LDS church
leaders recommended that they create a new settlement. Mary Ann passed away in Clover and was burried there.
Some married children of David and Mary Ann's family settled in other areas of Utah. A daughter, Maria settled in
Sanpete County & Abraham settled in Cache County.
